Okay, so here’s the deal. I found this pdf at discmakers.com called “Planning Your Album From Beginning to End” (check previous post). My first impression after skimming through the whole thing was: Holy crap! There is so much to do! There are 4 phases: 1. Making Your Album, 2. Preparing for the Album Release, 3. The Album Release and Post-release, and 4. REPEAT. And within each of these phases are lettered sections and within those are numbered sub-sections, which represent one step of the process. Basically, I have my work cut out for me! Okay, so the first step in Phase 1 is Decide what you’re making: an EP, an album, or an album series? Hmm, well of course I want to make a main album, that’s the ultimate goal right? But I don’t have any fans yet. Nobody knows I exist. The pdf makes the point that “It takes a lot of time and energy converting a person into a fan that is willing to purchase your music. But it takes less time and energy getting a fan that is willing to purchase some of your music to purchase additional music from you.” So I’m thinking I work on an EP while I’m working on the main album, release the EP first, see how people respond (if I’m lucky) and then proceed with the release of the main album. That’s what making sense to me right now but I think I’ll look into it a bit more and be back with more info and hopefully a final decision. What do you think I should do?
This is going to be my bible from now on…my digital bible lol
